1.1 Power Functions
- Students identify similarities and differences between polynomial and non-polynomials using the Polynomial Concept Attainment activity.
- As a class define a polynomial function
- Students are to use the TI-Nspire calculators and the activity to identify similarities in power functions with even and odd degrees, positive and negative leading coefficients.
- Give definitions for Line Symmetry and Point Symmetry.
- How does the leading coefficient of the function affect the graph of the polynomial?
Will need to define: end behaviour and leading coefficient. Review Domain and Range.
Use the smart Notebook Matching Exercise to complete an Achievement check. |

1.2 Characteristics of Polynomials.
- Use 1.2-characteristics of Polynomials TI-Nspire Activity to achieve the following class goals.
- Goal 1 – Relate the end behaviour to the degree
- Goal 2 – Relate the number of zeros to the degree
- Goal 3 – Relate the number of local maximums and local minimums to the degree
- Goal 4 – Relate the finite differences to the degree.
